The instructor

Stéphane Provent

Stéphane has taught freediving in Bastia since he started out. An AIDA and SSI Level II instructor, trained by Federico Mana (Moving Limits), he works one diver at a time — from the beginner reconnecting with their breath to the diver chasing more depth.

His method: take the time. Read the water, read the body, read the breath. No two sessions are ever the same.

The silence below

Descend,unfold.

Freediving is not a sport of force. It is an art of letting go. Past ten metres the lungs compress, the body yields, the water takes you. What you learn here is how to listen — first to your breathing, then to the silence that follows.

The sea is not taken. It is befriended — one breath at a time.

Before you descend

Try the breathe-up.

The 4-6-8 rhythm Stéphane starts every session with. Follow the ring: inhale, hold, exhale. Three cycles are enough to bring your heart rate down.

A relaxation exercise, to be done sitting down and on dry land. Never practise breath-holding in water without a qualified buddy.
